“Sitting at the Feet: A Look at the Story of Martha & Mary” In alignment with March being Women’s History Month, I want to revisit the story of Martha and Mary. Many may know the story of the two sisters who welcomed Jesus into their home and may see Martha’s busy approach and Mary’s approach of being at Jesus’ feet and offer a judgement – Mary did it “right”. As someone who relates to the responsibility and busy mind of Martha, sometimes I think she gets the short end of things. As we read the text, we can see themes from our own lives and shift into personal realizations about how we want to be in relationship with the Christ consciousness that lives within us and all others. Rev. Lily Boyles (she/her/ella) grew up in Unity, believing wholeheartedly in humanity’s sacred worth and our messiness. This dichotomy of each of us being fully human and fully divine inspired her to pursue a BA in Religious Studies and Sociology from the University of New Mexico. Ordained from Unity Worldwide Spiritual Institute (UWSI) in 2022, she continues to pursue ministry focused on deep care of individuals, family systems, and communities, knowing that Spirit moves inside and outside the walls of a traditional church building. This led her to pursuing Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City, KS where she will graduate in May 2025. She plans to pursue her calling as a board certified chaplain. Being a chaplain means holding space for the hard and the holy to be seen, heard, and honored.
